The expo, which is expected to attract between 10 thousand to 20 thousand visitors daily, was officially opened by Maritime and Fishery affairs Freddy Numberi.

The provincial export`s value until May 2005 reached US$ 181.80 million.

Foreign Firms Sign Agreements During N. Sulawesi Expo

The North Sulawesi administration and South Korean firm IR WindPower Co. Ltd signed a US$9 million agreement to develop wind energy into electric energy in Sangihe and Talaud islands, an official has said.

The signing of the agreement took place on the sidelines of the North Sulawesi Expo held at the Semanggi Expo hall here from September 1 to 5, North Sulawesi Regional Cooperation and Investment Coordinating Body head Vreke Najoan said here Sunday.

"The provincial administration`s efforts to promote North Sulawesi`s potential has led to the signing of some agreements between local and foreign investors," he said.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding approved by the North Sulawesi administration and the South Korean investor, they will build wind power plants in Sangihe and Talaud islands with a total capacity of six MW.

Najoan also said the North Sulawesi inked a $4million agreement with Bao Tai firm of China on a project to build a wind power plant as well as on agricultural breeding project in Southeast Minahasa district.

Another Chinese firm, Newport, signed an agreement with the North Sulawesi administration to invest in a gold mine in Bolaang Mongodow Utara district.
