Lombok claims the title to having the second highest Volcano in Indonesia 'Gunung Rinjani'. Surrounding this majestic landmark sits the Rinjani National Park. To just stand and feel the magic enchantment of scenery this region surrounds you with, is indeed humbling (if photography is a passion of yours, then the Rinjani region is surely not to be missed).
Lombok is home to many natural attractions, including the world famous volcano, Gunung Rinjani, located on the north of the island. Visitors from all around the world come to Lombok every year to climb Gunung Rinjani, either to its awe-inspiring crater lake or to the demanding summit with panoramic views across the waters to Gunung Agung, Bali's famous sister volcano.
Unlike the coastal regions of Lombok, because of the altitude the Rinjani region is much more temperate - even getting reasonably cool at night. Confusing when you consider Lombok to be a warm tropical climate. Settled in this breath taking environment is a charming homestay named Lembah Rinjani, situated near Sembalum Lawang Village in close proximity to Gunung Rinjani. Just staying at Lembah Rinjani is spectacular. Standing outside your bungalow you are surrounded by lush green mountains, covered in misty clouds, swirling and captivating you. All that alone, without looking over your shoulder to see the “grand master” Gunung Rinjani- towering over the terrain like some mythical King.
The staff at Lembah Rinjani is there for your every need. Bungalow prices are very reasonable; the meals are just what you need to sustain you while participating in the many things to do, during your stay. Catering for both Indonesian and Western cuisine, the chef's special Chicken Curry with Fresh Salad, is delicious. All the vegetables are grown on the property so that everything is fresh to the table (any fresher and they would still be in the ground). To wake in the morning, to see the sunrise, is not to be missed after a peaceful night's sleep. Gunung Rinjani seems to come alive, as the sun embraces the top of the crater.
For those that want to trek Rinjani, or go on other panoramic walks, Lembah Rinjani's staff are the specialists of the area, and can assist you with all your needs from porters to guides (never try to climb Gunung Rinjani without a guide or porter, as Gunung Rinjani shows no mercy to the fool hardy). For those that make the trek to the summit of Rinjani (usually taking two days round trip), sleeping at the summit for the night will be rewarding, as Rinjani reveals its interior lake, and beauty. This area is very significant to both Hindus and Muslims alike, so please respect its beauty as sacred ground.
