 [lomboktimes.com]After Success with Bali International Triathlon, now Triathlon come in Lombok. The first Lombok Triathlon has been scheduled for Sunday 28th October one of the toughest courses expected of a triathlon in Asia. The venue will be Sheraton Senggigi Resort, 15 minutes from the capital of Mataram.
The Race
The triathlon is a long distance race consisting of a 1.8km swim, a 55km Bike ride finishing with a 12km run. It will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday 28th October, on the beach in Senggigi, with the first finisher expected by around 10 a.m. and the last to come in on their knees around 1p.m. If you are still standing, the awards dinner will be held the same day at 6p.m.
The Course
There are very few roads on this pristine, untouched island. The road chosen for the 55km cycle represents one of the toughest bike courses in South East Asia. It is incredibly hilly (steeper than Phuket) with lots of rapid, sharp climbs through the lush green Monkey Forest and features breath-taking views over the Indian Ocean. Together with a 1.8km swim and a fast 12km run, the Lombok International Triathlon will be sure to challenge even the most hard-core triathletes. |

The Mentawai Islands of Indonesia are considered to be one of Surfing's ultimate travel destinations. The islands enormous exposure towards the southern Indian Ocean provides these paradise islands with awesome consistent quality waves and conditions. There are great waves in this area all year round. The most ideal time for surfing is from late March to early November, when the Indian Ocean is an ultra-active, groundswell-producing machine.
The Siberut Island lies 100 kilometers off the west coast of Sumatra. Its inhabitants, the Mentawai, came here 3000 years ago and developed their own distinct culture and society, preserved from the outside world until after the Second World War. Today, the Indonesian government, bowing to commercial pressures, has introduced transmigrational settlements to the area. |

 [indonesia-tourism.com] Four women from South Canterbury recently went to the tourist mecca of Bali. While they took in some of the usual attractions and one did learn to surf, they also took time out to take a look at the other side of life, including Dharma Jati orphanage. Reporter Stu Piddington talked to some of them, including Timaru photographer Jeanna McDonald who supplied the photographs.
“The Road Less Travelled” is a company with a difference run by St Andrews Anah Aikman. As the name suggests, Anah acts as a guide to look behind the scenes of a tourist destination.
She has spent considerable time in Bali and took a group of four women of diverse ages to show them more than what’s inside the glossy brochures. |

Taken from antara.co.id  Emaar, a United Arab Emirates (UAE) company, is ready to invest US$600 million to open a tourist resort on 1,175 ha of land in Lombok island in West Nusatenggara province, an Indonesian tourism official said here Thursday.
The tourist resort would be built in tandem with the construction of an international airport in Lombok island scheduled for completion in 2009, Wardiatmo, senior adviser for economic and science affairs to the Culture and Tourism Minister, told a panel discussion themed "Increasing Middle Eastern Tourist Arrivals Through Tourism-based Entrepreneurship." |

 Are you still confuse with your holiday, your hotel and along the main tourists venues? Why not try something new and learn a little more about Lombok and Indonesia.
Can you really say "been there, done that"? How do you make sate? Where's a good warung around here? What is a typical village wedding like? Where can you find a good surfing spot?
Sasak does not have greetings such as "Good Morning". A Sasak approaching a friend might ask, in the local language, " How are you?, How's your family?" simply as a form of greeting. Locals will frequently ask foreigners like this in English (it may be their only English!) as a greeting. Don't get annoyed - they are just trying to be polite. A smile and a "hello", or greeting in Indonesian, is a polite and adequate response.
