Yogyakarta govt expected that foreign tourist number who visit in Yogyakarta will increase 10% then last year. At 1009, Yogyakarta visited 160,000 foreign tourist. Hence, it will begin offering tax holidays, as already implemented in Jakarta and Bali.
Reported by tempointeractive, this is a part of tourism promotion in Jogja. Tazbirm, Revenue Office chief said “This is part of the promotion to raise the number of tourists.” A tax holiday or a value added tax (VAT) return is given to a person who shops locally. Another effort is to map the events. “All events in Yogyakarta already have schedules,” Tazbir said, adding that his office was also trying to add more flights from Singapore and Malaysia. Meanwhile, to extend the length of the tourists’ stay, the tourism office is seriously planning a walk heritage, targeting Japanese and Chinese tourists.
