Yogyakarta is the most artistic, classic and exotic city in Java. Jogja is one of favourite tourist destination in java. Yogyakarta or some people call it Jogja, with outstanding historical and cultural heritage. Jogjakarta has old traditions from the Mataram Dynasty (1575-1640), and until now the kraton (the sultan's palace) exists in its real functions.

Beside Jogja has unrivalled exotic cultural heritages, Jogja has beautiful natural panorama. The green rice fields cover the suburban areas with a background of the Merapi Mountain. Parangtritis natural beach, Malioboro, artistic area in heart of Jogja city.

Culutral heritage, excellent panorama is not enoght to describe Java, Java's people is very friendly and good hospitality. Just try to go around the city by bike, pedicab, or horse cart; and you will find sincere smiles and warm greeting in every corner of the city. An artistic atmosphere is deeply felt in Yogyakarta. Malioboro, as the center of Yogyakarta, is overwhelmed by handicraft from all around the city. Street musicians always ready entertain the visitors of the lesehan food stalls. Those who have visited Yogyakarta reveal that this city makes them long for it. Just visit here, then you will understand what this means.

Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo located near Probolinggo and one of popular tourist destination in East Java. Bromo has volcano with spectacular sunrises, and majestic views across to Semeru volcano in the south. Bromo has seven eruptive centres and they are active crater in caldera. The Ngadisari caldera at the  end of the complex formed about 150,000 years ago and is now drained through the Sapikerep Valley. The most recent of the Tengger calderas is the 9 x 10 km wide Sandsea Caldera at the SW end of the complex, which formed incrementally during the late Pleistocene and early Holocene. An overlapping cluster of post-caldera cones was constructed on the floor of the Sandsea Caldera within the last several thousand years. The youngest of these is Bromo, one of Java’s most active and most frequently visited volcanoes. Type Volcano in Bromo is Stratovolcano.

Mount Semeru
Mount Semeru is the highest mountain on Java Island, located near from Lumajang, East Java. At 3,676m, this stratovolcano is also known as "Gunung Mahameru"

(the Great Mountain) due to its supreme attributes. The most unique attribute of Mount Semeru is that it spews out a smoky cloud of steam, black ashes and stones every 20-30 minutes. If you are viewing the mountain from Penanjakan's vista point, you can almost be guaranteed of seeing the mini eruption, unless if you are really unlucky should the mountain decides to catch a breath.

Mount Semeru, one of Indonesia Tourist Destination in Java, has steep sides rise abruptly from the southern coastal plain on Java Island, although one could not see it from Penanjakan. Climbing the mountain isn't for everyone but it can be done. In fact, my driver told about a group of French climbers who frequent the majestic peak during the dry season of April to October.

Borobudur Temple
Borobudur, is one of International heritage, is the greates Buddhist temple in Indonesia. With the most exotic heritage, Borobudur become popular tourist Destination in Java. Rather, the stupas represent the state of Arupadhatu, the 3rd level in Buddhist cosmology. Here, a soul enters its formless spirit from the transitional form of Rupadhatu in the dizzying and confining 4-level maze of corridors. The spacious and open-air feel to these 3 circular terraces epitomises the divine spirit of perfection and enlightenment.

Visiting Borobudur early in the morning also helps to nurture the feeling of seclusion before the thronging crowd of noisy tourists start to stamp its presence around noon. Another advantage of the early morning visit is the spectacular views of the majestic volcano peaks and the peculiar-shaped Menoreh Hills, had something to do with the design of the stupas. All the 72 stupas are arranged in a specific geometrical position. They circle a massive stupa right in the middle of everything. This is the supreme symbol of the cosmic level a Buddhist practitioner can achieve, being as close to the powers-that-be.

Prambanan Temple
Prambanan Temple or Candi Prambanan is the most spectacular Hindu's temple in Jogjakarta. Prambanan was rediscovered in late 1800s and renovation started in 1918. When it was first found, the photos of the temple site was shockingly in utter mess. It certainly did not look like what it is today. The restoration work for this acclaimed World's Heritage Site is still on-going until today. In fact, the main temple of Siwa (or Siva according to different spelling) was only completed in 1953.

If you are facing north, look to towering peak of Gunung Merapi, that points to northwest, the 3 biggest temples in the middle of the site are called the Trimurti ("tri" means "three", "murti" means "form"). The concept of Trimurti basically describes the divine triad consists of Siwa, Brahma and Vishnu. These 3 main Hindu gods represent the aspect of a Supreme Being concept, in which the earth is created, protected and destroyed by these powers.

The largest and tallest temple naturally goes to Siwa. It measures 34m x 34m at the base and a whopping 47m in height. Siwa is the World Destroyer (Dewa Pemusnah) according to Hindu's teaching. Climbing up halfway through the temple will bring you to 4 different enclosures that are dedicated to the God of Siwa : in the east enclosure is Siwa Mahadewa (Siva The Supreme God), in the south enclosure is Siwa Mahaguru (Siva The Supreme Master), in the west enclosure is the statue of Ganesa (or Gasnesha), the son of Siwa, and, in the north enclosure is the statue of Durga Mahisasuramardhini (the wife of Siwa).

If you are entering the temple complex from the main entrance of the park, then on the right of Siwa would be the temple for Wisnu, and on the left would be the temple for Brahma. Both temples have similar base measurement of 20m x 20m with 37m in heights. Brahma is known as the World Creator (Dewa Pencipta) while Wisnu is known as the World Protector (Dewa Pelindung). Along with Siwa, these Trimurti (or sometimes termed as Trisakti) form the concept of a Supreme Being as I mentioned above - that the world has its creator, protector and destroyer.

Batik
If you goes to Java, You must buy the exotic java Clotes and Wear, it called Batik. Batik painting has an aesthetic quality printed all over it. Batik painting is very artistic, crafty and personalised. By that, I mean batik is mostly hand-painted and is not mass-produced in a factory far, far away (read: Nike shirts). Although, in parts of Malaysia, I do know about the need to utilise blocks of batik prints for the mass market. While there isn't anything particularly wrong with such fact, the aesthetic quality between painted and printed batik should differ greatly, in term of appearance and pricing.

Batik painting can found in some please in Java, like Magelang, Cirebon, Solo, Yogyakarta and others. Yogyakarta, one could witness the painting process up close. Liquid hot wax will be poured into a pencil-like equipment called canting or tjanting (pronounced like "chanting"). The tjanting is then used to draw shapes and motifs on a piece of empty cloth, normally white in colour, on which the hot wax will take form into the intended hand movement. Normally, the motifs used on the drawing are derived from natural objects such as plants, leaves, birds, etc.

After a while, the wax will solidify into a subtle border, in which colourful inks will be poured in. The wax will ensure that the inks will stay within the enclosure to get the intended effect of the original drawing. After the inks dry, the piece of cloth will be dipped into boiling water to remove the wax. As a result, you will get the shapes and motifs of the original drawing transformed into the now ready-to-use batik cloth.

If wearing such delicate arts as your beach-party sarongs or formal dinner shirts is not your cup of tea, worry not. There are also framed batik paintings available through the city. These frames can easily be hung on your walls with batik drawing of your choice.
