Tourists who visit Indonesiain the last year (2009) increase from 6.2 million in 2008 to 6.4 million in 2009. But why Indonesia's museum lost the visitors and they are closed? Is museum not interesting, so not one of Indonesia International Destination? Or this is wrong management or notpromoted? Reported by thejakartapost.com, An official from Indonesia Culture and Tourism Ministry said that Indonesialost at least 11 museums on the last year. The museums have stopped operating mainly due to lack of funding, from the Culture and Tourism Ministry says.
Museum is one of heritage and must be protected by goverment and all of Indonesia people. Intan Mardiana Napitupulu, The ministry's director of museums, said that the directorate had obtained the data after conducting a feasibility study prior to the launching of its Visit Museum Year 2010 program in December last year. But Intan didn't say which museums lost. According to Intan Mardiana Napitupulu, some museums weren't regularly open for visitors, while others did not have enough staff to manage the maintenance of their collections. With numbers reduced, Indonesia currently has a total of 272 museums, a half of them run and financially supported by regional administrations. If others museum have no better managemen, this sad news will be repeated. According to data from the ministry, Indonesia attracted 6.46 million foreign visitors in 2009, a slight increase from 6.2 million visitors a year earlier. At the end of 2009, the ministry launched the 2010 Visit Museum Year program, expecting the program to help achieve its target of attracting 7 million foreign visitors and drawing 230 million domestic tourist travel this year. |
